This crew has quickly mean’t more and more to my family this last year. They are just wonderful people… We all know that my job is being a stay-at-home-mom and being a full time photographer, but my husband serves as a youth and college pastor. And we’ve had the gift of spending time with these sweet older ‘kids’. And I say 'kids' loosely, because these are some of the most grounded, kind, hard-working young adults you’ll ever meet. The kind who show up. The kind who love their parents well. The kind who would give you the shirt off their back. Naturally, I turn my head to their parents and ask “how’d you do it?”! We try to soak up their wisdom any chance we get and hope a little of something they’re doing right rubs off on us too!


So when The Daniels reached out to snag some family pictures, I jumped up with a big ol’ “Absolutely YES”! The ‘kids’ are getting older and their son wanted to gift his parents a session before he headed off to college. This was an easy “let’s do it” moment. Like, what? How kind is that? If my son ever thought of such a beautiful gift idea before leaving town and moving on to the next chapter of life I think I would cry for a week. And then cry a little more.




We met up at a beautiful grassy field with the most beautiful tall towering trees. If you’ve ever wondered whether a field and tall trees are a good location for family photos — the answer is yes. Anyone else seeing a glimpse of roots and branched out generations in the background The open space gives everyone room to move naturally. The trees add depth and dimension. And the filtered golden light coming through the branches creates that soft, timeless feel that never goes out of style. This moment in time for families has truly snagged my heart; entering the exiting chapter. Off to the real world and leaving the nest. I’m not crying, you’re crying… okay we are all crying.


*Quick side note: I am REALLY wanting to make empty nesting photoshoots a thing. How cute would that be?*


As we took pictures, the love between this family truly shinned. They were all in, willing to be a little silly, willing to hug tight, willing to give me the “posey” smiles and then immediately break into laughter. For families who worry their older kids won’t be into it, I promise, it doesn’t have to feel awkward. When you give them space to move, joke, and just be together, the connection shows up naturally. And that’s exactly what happened here. We weren’t just taking pictures, we were documenting a season and created a memory that we got to freeze in time.
