I met up with David & Brooke just before sunset in Raleigh, when the light starts to dip low and everything turns that creamy, golden tone I love so much. The lake was calm, the breeze was just right, and the whole session felt unhurried and embraced. Like we had all the time in the world to just enjoy the photoshoot. The lake gave us the dreamiest backdrop. There is something about water and its reflection at dusk, it’s just yummy!! I could eat it up. I could have just sat and stared off the shore as the light waves settled in all night.
But once we got clicking… it was their connection that made the session. These two were like magnets with each other and it made my heart do a happy dance. I love how sessions can start out feeling just a tiny bit stiff… and then five minutes later, they’re fully being the goofiest of goofballs while going rogue with the funniest ideas. I swear I’m posing the whole time, but somehow the “Dirty Dancing” move shows up way more often than I’d like to admit… and it’s literally never my idea.
It’s like when you unlock your inner model, your inner comedian unlocks too. Goofing around is the way to gooooo!! I think that’s what makes these sessions so fun. Somewhere between the laughs and the chaos, it stops feeling like a photoshoot and starts feeling like a memory being made. And honestly? Those are always my favorite ones to look back on.
Sessions like this remind me why I love photographing couples so much. David & Brooke, thank you for trusting me with this session. It was simple, joyful, and exactly the kind of evening I wish I could bottle up.
If you’re in Raleigh or North Carolina (or anywhere) and dreaming of photos that feel natural, warm, and full of movement, whether it’s a couples session or your wedding day, I would love to tell your story next.
Let’s chase golden light together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you photograph weddings in Raleigh, North Carolina?
Yes! I photograph both couples sessions and weddings throughout Raleigh and across North Carolina (and far and wide past that)! Weddings are one of the best reasons to celebrate and being on your side cheering you on is the best part of my job!
Will my fiancé be excited to take engagement pictures?
Honestly? Most of them don’t start out that way 😅
But here’s the thing, they usually leave saying, “That was actually way easier than I thought and a lot of fun!” I don’t expect him to know how to pose or love being in front of the camera. That’s my job. I guide you both in a way that feels natural and relaxed, so it doesn’t turn into an hour of stiff smiling.
We keep it moving. We keep it light. And before you know it, he’s laughing, pulling you in close, and realizing it’s really just about the two of you hanging out, with me third-wheeling a little bit.
And by the end? They’re pretty happy that they got a few kissing pictures in the mix and they forgot about that sweet perk! Hehe.
What should we wear for an engagement session?
Sometimes the sweetest looks are all about coming back to the basics. The base of a creamy picture begins with a soft color. This can range from white to baby pastels - but neutrals are what ignite my soul. Think light creams, sage, butter yellow, muted blues, and earthy tans.

How far in advance should we book?
I recommend reaching out as soon as possible! Did you know that I include a free engagement session in my wedding collection?!
For weddings, it’s best to get in touch 6-12 months in advance, and for portraits or lifestyle sessions, 2-4 months is ideal. Especially during spring and fall when dates fill quickly. I am always happy to peek at my calendar and squeeze in a date if possible but to comfortably secure you spot, there is no such thing as too early!
