It started with a phone call:
“Hey… can we fly you out to meet us in Utah? We have an idea!”
I didn’t need any more information, it was a yes in two seconds flat.
…but the extra details are way too good not to share. They already planned to have a intimate local Arizona elopement, but one week before that elopement, they put this trip in the books as their “first look”! Can we just take a moment and applaud them for being that creative?
And just like that, we were off on an adventure.
Once we hit the road from Salt Lake City to the Salt Flats it all started to get so real and exciting. We worked together to get Lacies hair and make up all done back at the hotel and the rest of their things were in the back of the 4 runner! They were so up for the “toss together” feel, and I was all here for it. Something about that day was just a complete vibe. We were literally chasing the sunset and ready for the views while also being in all the feels.
We get there and without hesitation, Chazz starts driving on the salt. I was fully shocked because that is just not what came to my mind. In my head, we were going to park on the side and walk way out there. But nope, there were already people driving on it, and he was completely right. My feet were grateful, and it added such a fun, unexpected layer to the experience. Now I can check that off my experiences list!
We parked, hopped out, and I started taking in the view. I turned around thinking they were right next to me but to my surprise their suitcases were tossed open on the salt and they were ready to get ready. This was just the cutest moment to me. They were just so happy to get in their outfits and to see each other.
Once they were all put together, we set up the first look! This is where I love to pause as a photographer and ask the bride how she’d like her man to see her for the first time. She’s in her gorgeous dress and there is usually a favorite angle she’d love him to notice. Lacie really wanted him to notice the back of her dress. So I set them up facing away from each other and on my go they both turned around… but I had Lacie turn slowly, giving Chazz a moment to take in the back… and then the front.
… and we were off! Taking pictures on white whimsical grounds in the glow of sunset light. The kind of moments that don’t need many words because the photos say it all.
But one last thing I have to say…
Lacie is my little sister.
…and that’s where the tears come in.

How far in advance should we book?
I recommend reaching out as soon as possible! Did you know that I include a free engagement session in my wedding collection?!
For weddings, it’s best to get in touch 6-12 months in advance, and for elopments 3-12 months is ideal. Especially during seasons when dates fill quickly. I am always happy to peek at my calendar and squeeze in a date if possible but to comfortably secure you spot, there is no such thing as too early!
